This section is for Federal Indian Day Schools Survivors and their families to share their thoughts and recommendations on the implementation of the Legacy Fund.
The input of Indian Day Survivors and their families is deeply important to us at MDSSC, as we want the Legacy Fund to be as responsive as possible, truly meeting the needs and expectations of Survivors and their families. We are seeking your input throughout Fall 2021 to better determine how the Legacy Fund should be administered and implemented.
We hope this outreach with you results in robust, meaningful, and transparent engagement in a safe, supportive way. Our goal is ensuring the highest level of representation and input from Survivors by providing multiple options and accommodations to address your needs and meet you where you are on your healing journey. Please see the “Accessibility” section below for more information.
The questions below will help guide this input, allowing us to respectfully and carefully consider every response. We have extended the time allotted for submissions. Responses may now be submitted until January 7, 2021.
Health & Wellness Supports
Your wellbeing is important to us, and we understand the difficult emotions that may arise with discussions relating to Indian Day Schools. If you require immediate support at any time, please contact Hope for Wellness Help Line at 1-855-242-3310 to access toll-free, 24/7 counselling and crisis intervention. These culturally-competent services are available in Cree, Inuktitut, Ojibway, French and English.
For individuals with visual impairments and/or difficulties with digital options, please note that we have a PDF version of this web page available for download below. The submission instructions for this option, as well as other accommodations (including telephone), is provided in the document itself.
These questions are intended only as a guide. Please feel free to answer some or all of the questions, or to provide your own submissions. If you have any questions or difficulties, please contact us.
Thank you for taking the time to submit your responses. We deeply appreciate your input — it will help us design a framework for the administration and implementation of the Legacy Fund that directly supports Survivors and their families. The McLean Day Schools Settlement Corporation is an organization for Federal Indian Day School Survivors; we will use all input received to shape the parameters of the Legacy Fund and the future of the MDSSC.
Ensuring our outreach and engagement process is open and transparent is critical for the MDSSC. We will be posting regular summaries of the input received from Survivors, families, and others online. At the conclusion of our outreach and engagement work, a more fulsome report of the process, the input we received, and our next steps will be made publicly available.
